History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

Started in 1883 by Ernst Matz, Matz Funeral Home has had a long tradition of dedication and service to the Chicagoland area. Our Central avenue location has been at its present location since 1939. After suffering a devastating fire in 1981, the Matz family rebuilt this facility and continues to provide the highest level of service our families have come to expect. Building upon our reputation and with support from the families that we serve, we were able to build our Mt. Prospect location, that opened in 1972. Matz Funeral Home is able to serve our families that live in the Northwest suburbs, again providing the highest level of quality service. With the support of our families and communities we look forward to the future.

Matz Funeral Home is proud to be owned and operated by the 4th generation of the Matz family. We feel that being family owned provides us with the one on one personal relationship that each family deserves. At Matz Funeral Home, our owners and staff answer directly to the families that we serve and not to share holders of a large, impersonal corporation.
