Emily C. Hagemann, nee Michalak, age 94 of Chicago; beloved wife of the late Frank J. Hagemann; loving mother of Matthew, Susan, Gail, Carol, Paul (Molly) and the late Janice; cherished grandmother of Kristi, Brian, Angeline, John and Jenny; great-grandmother of Jason and Jayden; dear sister of Rose (Roman) Kort, Victor (Jamesina and the late Mary Michalak, Hedwig Spaight (the late James Zube and the late James Spaight), Frances (Richard) Kamnetz, the late Eleanor (the late Stanley) Swieczkowski, the late Leo Michalak, the late Stanley (Raymonde and the late Marge) Michalak, the late Clara (the late Eugene) Goljan, the late Anna (the late Frank) Filipiak, the late John Michalak, the late Kasmer (Ruth) Michalak, the late Andrew Michalak, the late Louis, the late Henry and the late Frank (Dorothy) Michalak; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Emily was an amazing woman, mom, and grandmother. She was born in Stanley, Wisconsin and grew up on a dairy farm along with 15 siblings. Her own mother died when she was just 5 years old and she helped to raise her younger siblings. The family home burned to the ground and she and her family lived in their barn while the home was rebuilt with the help of neighboring farmers. When Emily turned 18 she was given the option of staying on the farm or starting her own adventure along with $50 and a suitcase. She embarked on an adventure traveling the country and making her own way, working various jobs to support herself. Emily supported the war effort by working in a rifle factory during WWII. She somehow raised six children in a frame bungalow house with 3 bedrooms and one bathroom while our dad worked two side jobs in addition to his main career as a Chicago Policeman. Emily provided comfort during trying times. She took care of our disabled sister Janice who preceded her in death. Emily endured many hardships both emotionally and physically, but always fought on. She never meddled but always gave sage advice when warranted. She gave but never took, always putting others before herself. She came to the party with her arms full and left with her hands empty. Emily always exhibited grace. She had an unwavering faith in God and is now seated at God's table in paradise, free from any pain or anxiety for eternity. She will be greatly missed. Thank you.
